USB Type-A / C Interfaces

The Rhino Pi IQ9N (Rhino Pi IQ9N) provides USB 3.0 and USB 2.0 interfaces, and expands multiple downstream ports through HUB chips.

Interface Distribution

Interface TypeExternal OutputInternal Use
USB 3.02 onboard USB 3.0 Type-A ports; 2 ZIF-USB breakout ports (1 USB 3.0 Type-A, 1 USB Type-C)1 port is expanded into 2 drive interfaces via a USB 3.0 to dual SATA 3.0 bridge chip
USB 2.02 ports: dual-layer USB TYPE-A2 ports: 1 used for audio processing (AEC noise reduction), 1 reserved

Note: The Type-C port exposed through ZIF-USB is only a physical form factor without standard Type-C protocol; it supports data and file transfer, but does not support expansion or display conversion.

USB 3.0 HUB

The USB 3.0 downstream ports are expanded by a 4-port USB SuperSpeed HUB controller. This chip integrates a 4-port USB HUB and USB PD functions in a single chip, with independent SS HUB and USB 2.0 HUB controllers, and built-in 5 sets of SS PHY, 5 sets of USB 2.0 PHY, and 2 sets of PD PHY.

USB 2.0 HUB

The USB 2.0 downstream ports are expanded by a 4-port USB HUB controller. The upstream port supports USB 2.0 high speed and full speed, and the downstream ports support USB 2.0 high speed 480 Mbps, full speed 12 Mbps, and low speed 1.5 Mbps.

USB to SATA

The internal USB 3.0 port can be expanded into 2 drive interfaces via a USB 3.0 to dual SATA 3.0 bridge chip. Specifications are as follows:

  • Interface: USB 3.0 (5 Gbps) ↔ 2 x SATA 3.0 (6 Gbps)
  • Protocols: supports UASP (accelerated transfer), BOT, LBA48 addressing

ZIF-USB Interface Definitions

For the position of the ZIF-USB connector on the board, see the interface layout diagram in Rhino Pi IQ9N Interface Description on the first page.

The ZIF-USB connector type is FH26W-39S-0.3SHW(60), exposing 2 USB ports in total: 1 Type-A and 1 Type-C. The pin definitions are as follows:

Note: The ZIF-USB connector is a 0.3 mm pitch FPC connector; pay attention to the cable orientation and impedance matching when wiring.

Internal USB 2.0 Interface Definitions

For the position of the internal USB 2.0 interface on the board, see the interface layout diagram in Rhino Pi IQ9N Interface Description on the first page.

The internal USB 2.0 interface uses a WAFER-GH1.25-4PLB connector:
