Network Configuration

The Rhino Pi IQ9N provides one RJ45 2.5G wired Ethernet port and a Wi-Fi 6 / Bluetooth 5.3 wireless module. This page describes how to view and configure the network.

Viewing the Network

View all network interfaces:

bash
ip a

View connection status:

bash
nmcli dev status

View connection details:

bash
nmcli dev show

Wired Network Configuration

Obtaining an IP Automatically (DHCP)

After you plug the network cable into the RJ45 port, the system obtains an IP automatically over DHCP by default.

View the obtained address:

bash
nmcli -f IP4.ADDRESS,IP4.GATEWAY,IP4.DNS dev show eth0

Configuring a Static IP

Configure eth0 with a static IP:

bash
sudo nmcli con mod "Wired connection 1" ipv4.method manual \
  ipv4.addresses 192.168.1.100/24 \
  ipv4.gateway 192.168.1.1 \
  ipv4.dns "8.8.8.8,114.114.114.114"
sudo nmcli con up "Wired connection 1"

Restore automatic acquisition:

bash
sudo nmcli con mod "Wired connection 1" ipv4.method auto
sudo nmcli con up "Wired connection 1"

Wireless Network Configuration

Scanning for Wi-Fi

bash
sudo nmcli dev wifi rescan
nmcli dev wifi list

Connecting to Wi-Fi

bash
sudo nmcli dev wifi connect <Wi-Fi name> password <Wi-Fi password>

For example:

bash
sudo nmcli dev wifi connect APLUX-Office password 12345678

Disconnecting and Deleting a Connection

bash
nmcli con down <Wi-Fi name>
nmcli con delete <Wi-Fi name>

Enabling a Wireless Hotspot

Using the device as a hotspot (combined with the wired Ethernet port, it can act as a soft router):

bash
sudo nmcli dev wifi hotspot ifname wlan0 ssid APLUX-IQ9N password 12345678

After the command runs, a connection named Hotspot is created and activated on wlan0: the device obtains the address 10.42.0.1/24 on that interface, and after a client connects to APLUX-IQ9N its traffic is forwarded through the wired interface eth0. The password must be at least 8 characters long.

Check the hotspot status:

bash
nmcli dev status

Turn off the hotspot:

bash
sudo nmcli con down Hotspot

If the hotspot is no longer needed, you can delete the connection:

bash
sudo nmcli con delete Hotspot

Testing Network Connectivity

bash
ping -c 4 8.8.8.8
ping -c 4 www.aidlux.com

FAQ

  • The wired port has no IP: run nmcli dev status to confirm that eth0 is connected, and check the network cable and the peer device.
  • Wi-Fi connection fails: confirm that the password is correct, or run nmcli dev wifi rescan and try again.
  • DNS resolution fails: check the ipv4.dns configuration, or verify the DNS server address in /etc/resolv.conf.
