ADB Basics

ADB is used to establish a command-line channel between a PC and the Rhino Pi IQ9N, and is often used when no display is available.

Confirming the Device Connection

bash
adb devices

Entering the Device Shell

If you need root privileges, run adb root first to switch to root, then enter the device shell:

bash
adb root
adb shell

If adb root reports adbd is already running as root, you are already root.

Exit the shell:

bash
exit

File Transfer

Push a file to the device:

bash
adb push <local file path> <device target path>

Pull a file from the device:

bash
adb pull <device file path> <local target path>

Device Control

Reboot the device:

bash
adb shell reboot

Enter EDL (forced download) mode:

bash
adb root
adb shell reboot edl

Note

adb reboot does not respond on this device (the command hangs indefinitely and the device does not reboot in testing); always use adb shell reboot to reboot.

FAQ

  • The device is offline: unplug and replug the USB data cable, or run adb kill-server and retry.
  • No device-side authorization for USB debugging is needed: ADB on the IQ9N does not require authorization to be confirmed on the device; it is enough that adb devices shows device. If you need root privileges, run adb root first.
